Cabochon Settings

A cabochon setting is a type of gemstone setting where the stone has a smooth, rounded, polished surface rather than being faceted. The back of the gemstone is usually flat, allowing it to be securely placed in the setting. This type of setting is typically used for stones that are opaque or have unique visual qualities, such as opals, moonstones, or turquoise.

In a cabochon setting, the gemstone is often held in place by a bezel, which is a metal rim that wraps around the edges of the stone to secure it. The bezel can either fully encircle the stone (full bezel) or only partially cover it at strategic points (partial bezel). This setting style is known for providing a protective and secure hold, making it ideal for softer or more delicate stones.
